This is the last blog in the good guiding series (I felt 3 was somehow a good number), and of course its about growing! I also felt it fits rather well with the new girlguiding strap line.
GROWING membership numbers!
Perhaps the most obvious growing and something we have been involved with a lot at 1st Loftus, with the opening of new units. Something I have learnt is not to take things personally, to keep on going, and keep on going. Its easy to give up and hard to keep on, but this is what gets the results. Look at how you can raise your units profile, local schools, local paper, social media, websites, posters, fairs and fates!
GROWING leaders!
Its been fantastic to be at the start of some new leaders journey in guiding, for some as adult leaders and for some as young leaders. My top tip? Make them feel welcome, make them feel valued, and have a good time! This is what we try to do, a simple thank you, or a card when its their birthday, being involved in planning, and listening to them. Remember they are not you, they might do things different, have a different level of commitment, have different needs.
GROWING yourself!
I told you that I liked things in threes! Well opening three new units in 12 months has certainly helped me to grow as a person. I have developed new skills in leadership, thought about new opportunities, meet new people. I am not the same person as I was, and guiding as enabled me to take on new challenges. I certainly hope that I am a stronger person for it.
